LICHENS
They are a bizarre and complex life form. They are in that non-plant, non-animal category. These unusual creatures are a combination of two organisms living intimately together as one. They are a partnership between a fungus and an algae, each providing for the other. The fungal filaments provide the structure and shape of the lichen while living among these are the algae cells which provide food.
